Drew Hamilton Breaks Another School Record, Spartan Men Extend Lead at Wooster Invite

WOOSTER, Ohio – Freshman Drew Hamilton (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin) broke a second school record in as many days, and the Case Western Reserve University men's swimming & diving team extended its lead on day two of the 2014 Wooster Invitational.

The four-time defending champion Spartans increased their point total to 1,100.5 with one day remaining in the event. Ohio Northern University ranks second at 828.5.

A day after overtaking a 12-year old school record in the 500-yard freestyle, Hamilton broke a 13-year old mark with a time of 4:04.80 in the 400 individual medley. Hamilton's second-place 500 free (4:34.73) of last night and his runner-up 400 IM of this evening are each NCAA 'B' cuts. Former All-American Jon Gellin previously held each record with a time of 4:35.57 in the 500 free (2002) and a mark of 4:05.14 in the 400 IM (2001).

In addition, CWRU turned in a pair of third-place relay finishes and six more top five individual performances.

In the opening men's event of the night, the 200 medley relay, the Spartans 'A' team took third in 1:34.31. Senior Andrew Bollinger (Boulder, Colo./Fairview) led off in front of freshman John Kilbane (Independence, Ohio/St. Edward) and juniors Alec David (Somerdale, N.J./Triton Regional) and Elliott Kerbel (Skokie, Ill./Niles West).

Junior Aaron Tam (Doral, Fla./Ronald Reagan Doral Senior) and David each placed in the top five of the 100 butterfly. Tam was runner-up in 50.40, and David was fifth in 51.02.

Bollinger later took fourth in the 100 backstroke (52.47), while freshman Oliver Hudgins (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) placed fifth in the 200 freestyle (1:43.51).

To close the evening, the 800 free 'A' relay team finished just ahead of the 'B' quartet as Tam, Hudgins, sophomore Andrew Henning (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) and senior Eric Haufler (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key) touched the wall in 7:02.86.

On the diving board, junior Connor Farrell (Bedord Corners, N.Y./Fox Lane) won the 1-meter event with 471.95 points and the 3-meter with 462.95.

The invite concludes on Saturday, December 6 with 10:00 a.m. prelims and 5:00 p.m. finals at Ellen Shapiro Natatorium.
