GROVE CITY, Pa. – Led by four individual double-winners, the Case Western Reserve University men's swimming & diving team defeated host Grove City College and Division II Gannon University (Pa.) in tri-meet action on Saturday at Longnecker Pool.
The Spartans (5-1) defeated Grove City (2-5), 217-75, and Gannon (1-3), 180.5-99.5.
As a team, CWRU won 10 events with a pair of individual first-place finishes apiece for junior Connor Farrell (Bedord Corners, N.Y./Fox Lane), senior Eric Haufler (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key), junior Aaron Tam (Doral, Fla./Ronald Reagan Doral Senior) and freshman Drew Hamilton (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin).
Farrell won the 1-meter dive with 314 points and the 3-meter event with 313.90. Both point totals were a season best as Farrell improved on his regional qualifying scores.
Haufler was victorious in both the 100-yard freestyle (48.14) and 200 free (1:46.79), while Tam touched the wall first in both the 200 butterfly (1:56.05) and 500 free (4:46.05). Hamilton won the 1,000 free in 9:53.05 and the 400 individual medley in 4:14.15.
In the final event of the evening, the 200 free relay, the Spartans placed first in 1:26.17 behind the quartet of Haufler, junior Elliott Kerbel (Skokie, Ill./Niles West), senior Andrew Bollinger (Boulder, Colo.Fairview) and Tam.
The Spartans are now idle until the annual three-day Wooster Invitational in Wooster, Ohio on Thursday-Saturday, December 4-6. Day one action is set for 11:00 a.m. prelims and 7:00 p.m. finals. The team has placed first at the event in four straight seasons under Head Coach Doug Milliken.
