CLEVELAND – Freshman goalkeeper Calvin Boyle (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) made 13 saves, and the Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team stayed in the race in the University Athletic Association with a 0-0 tie versus the University of Chicago in the 2014 home finale at DiSanto Field.

The Spartans (8-4-3, 2-1-1 UAA) sit in third place in the conference behind the Maroons (8-4-2, 2-0-2) and first-place (3-1 UAA) Brandeis University (Mass.).

Boyle, now with three straight shutouts, has not allowed a goal in 311:08. The 13 saves represent his second highest total (18 on October 8) this season. In 1,124 minutes as a rookie, Boyle boasts a 0.88 goals against average and 66 saves.

Each team took turns controlling the pace in the first half. The most significant scoring threat came in the 12th minute when sophomore forward Joshua Prosser (Springfield, Va./South County) rocketed a shot towards the far end of the net. UC goalkeeper Hill Bonin was able to extend and knock the ball away to keep the match scoreless. Chicago's best chance came after a cross with 40 seconds left on the clock as a shot by Brad Bozych sailed wide.

Early in the second, the Maroons threatened with just over 43 minutes remaining, but Boyle made a diving save on a shot by Nick Codispoti. The Maroons kept the heat on and had another chance come up short when a Stacey Reimann shot flew high in the 64th minute.

CWRU's best opportunity in the second came during the 74th minute when a shot by sophomore defender Zach Broujos (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) was turned away by a leaping save from Bonin.

One more great look in regulation came in the 85th minute, but Boyle once again came up clutch with a save on a shot by Christoffer Mathis.

Early in overtime, junior midfielder Chris Cvecko (Erie, Pa./McDowell) was set up for a look at the net but had a shot go wide.

For the match, the Maroons led in shots (22-14) and corner kicks (5-4).

Bonin posted seven saves for the visitors.

The Spartans now have 11 days off from competition before beginning a stretch of three in a row on the road to close the regular season. The first of those matches is set for Friday, October 31 at Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.). Kickoff in Pittsburgh is set for 5:00 p.m.
