Behind a stout defense, the Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team recorded seven wins during the 2025 season, going 7-5-5 during the campaign.
The Spartans started the season with four consecutive wins and did not lose their first nine games. CWRU shut out eight of its first nine opponents, including a 5-0 win over Allegheny on September 14 and 3-0 victories over Marietta (September 17), during which junior Adam Pluszczyk scored twice, and Oberlin (September 10). The team's final non-conference game of the season was a 2-1 loss to Otterbein, who qualified for the NCAA Tournament.
Case Western Reserve earned a 1-0 road win over NYU in conference play and secured ties against then-fifth-ranked Brandeis (0-0) and Rochester (1-1). The Spartans allowed just five goals in league play with four of the team's opponents advancing to the NCAA Tournament. The five goals were tied for second fewest in the conference.
Senior Bradley Winter played every minute in goal for CWRU, capping one of the best goalkeeper careers in program history. Winter was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region Third Team and All-University Athletic Association First Team, his third career All-UAA honor. During the season, he allowed just eight goals and recorded a program-record 10 shutouts. His 0.47 goals against average was the fourth lowest in a single season in program history. Across four seasons, Winter made 47 starts in goal, allowing 33 goals with a program record 22 shutouts.
Senior Phillip Washington, an All-UAA First Team selection, missed just 23 minutes of action in front of Winter, starting the final 33 games of his career. Washington was joined by first-year Alex Eby, an All-UAA honorable mention who missed only 15 minutes of the season, and junior Philip Vlastaris (16 starts) on the CWRU backline. Senior midfielder Camden Larson, an All-UAA honorable mention, also played a significant role in limiting opponents to just 8.6 shots and 2.9 shots on goal per contest.
Offensively, junior Ohta Kamiya scored a team-high five goals for CWRU, including two game-winning goals and three penalty kicks. Pluszczyk found the back of the net four times in 14 appearances, and sophomores Amir Awais and Mitchell Fein and first-year Micah Rossen each added a pair of goals. Nine different Spartans recorded an assist during the campaign, including Fein, Rossen, Larson, Washington, sophomore Owen Guffey, junior Sean Wilson, sophomore Ashton McNally, first-year Gavin Trosch, and senior McLaren Baggett.
McNally and senior Stephen Vilardo played in every game for Case Western Reserve with senior Ben Collier and first-year Raj Chitre logging 10 appearances each.
