Box Score HIRAM, Ohio - Playing its first true away match of the season, the Case Western Reserve University volleyball team (11-12) knocked off Hiram College (16-7) in four sets on Wednesday evening at Price Gymnasium. The Spartans previous 22 contests were played either at home or neutral sites.
The match was decided by scores of 25-17, 16-25, 25-20 and 26-24 as the Spartans defeated the Terriers for the first time since 2010.
Sophomore outside hitter Carolyn Bogart (New Berlin, Wis./New Berlin Eisenhower) and freshman right side hitter Marian Barton (Custer Park, Ill./Reed-Custer) led the effort with 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Sophomore setter Robyn Marks (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Mott) directed the attack with 36 assists.
Defensively, Marks and freshman outside hitter Isabelle Wagner (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake) each tallied 11 digs, while junior middle hitter Natalie Southard (Buffalo, N.Y./City Honors School) posted a career-best seven block assists.
The Terriers were led by Marissa Jay and Lindsay Brewer with 12 kills apiece.
The Spartans (0-3 in the University Athletic Association) return to action at the 2013 UAA Round Robin #2 this Saturday and Sunday, October 19-20 in St. Louis. The team plays a pair of matches each day beginning with a 1:30 p.m. bout versus Brandeis University (Mass.) on day one.
