Box Score BEREA, Ohio – Freshman outside hitter Carolyn Bogart (New Berlin, Wis./New Berlin Eisenhower) posted a double-double of 18 kills and 18 digs as the Case Western Reserve University volleyball team defeated cross-town rival Baldwin Wallace University by a score of 3-1 on Tuesday evening at Ursprung Gymnasium.
The Spartans improve to 12-3 overall heading into the first of two University Athletic Association Round Robins this weekend in Chicago. BW drops to 8-12.
The Spartans came out sluggish and dropped the opening set, 25-20, but bounced back in a hurry en route to a 25-12 victory in the second. The third set was tightly-contested, but Case won 25-19 before clinching the match with a 25-15 victory in the fourth.
In addition to Bogart's 18 kills, sophomore middle hitter Natalie Southard (Buffalo, N.Y./City Honors School) tallied 15 in 29 attempts. Senior Breana Freeman (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) and freshman Robyn Marks (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Mott) set the offense with 32 and 22 assists, respectively.
Defensively, senior libero Rachel Gulasey (Cleveland, Ohio/Magnificat) went over 20 digs for the eighth time this season with a team-high 26. Freeman and senior defensive specialist Olivia Stanton-Ameisen (Bryn Mawr, Pa./The Baldwin School) also contributed 10 digs apiece.
Case plays three conference matches in two days this weekend beginning with a 10:30 a.m. (CDT) contest versus Brandeis University (Mass.) on Saturday, September 29 at the Ratner Center. The Spartans also play the University of Rochester (N.Y.) at 12:30 p.m. (CDT) on Saturday and No. 1 nationally-ranked Washington University (Mo.) at 12:00 p.m. (CDT) on Sunday, Sept. 30.
This weekend's round robin along with the second in Pittsburgh in mid-October will determine the seeding for the UAA Championship Tournament in Atlanta in early November.
