Box Score WOOSTER, Ohio – In its longest contest of the young season, the Case Western Reserve University volleyball team dropped a marathon, 3-2 match at The College of Wooster on Friday evening at Timken Gymnasium.
The opening set went well beyond 25 points, and Wooster (11-4) eventually won 33-31. The Spartans (11-3) then claimed the next two by counts of 25-19 and 25-21, but the host Fighting Scots rallied to take the final two, 26-24 and 15-12.
Four Spartans hit double-figures in kills led by sophomore middle hitter Natalie Southard (Buffalo, N.Y./City Honors School) and freshman outside hitter Carolyn Bogart (New Berlin, Wis./New Berlin Eisenhower) with 18 and 16, respectively.
Senior Breana Freeman (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) and freshman Robyn Marks (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Mott) shared the setting duties with respective assist totals of 35 and 24. For Marks, the 24 assists represented a season high.
Defensively, senior Rachel Gulasey (Cleveland, Ohio/Magnificat) posted a season-high 30 digs to pace five in double-figures. Senior defensive specialist Kara Monnin (Minster, Ohio/Minster) posted a season-high 16.
Paige Parker was a top performer for Wooster with 23 kills and 19 digs. Kelly Johnson led all defenders with 34 digs.
The Spartans have the rest of the weekend off before traveling cross-town to play Baldwin Wallace University on Tuesday, September 25 in Berea.
