Box Score 2 KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team opened the 2012 season with a pair of 3-0 victories at the Kalamazoo College Green Hornet Invitational on Friday at the Anderson Center.
The Spartans blanked Olivet College (Mich.) by scores of 25-17, 25-12 and 25-17 then followed with a sweep of host Kalamazoo 25-17, 25-10 and 25-16.
In the opener versus Olivet, the Spartans were led offensively by freshmen Samantha Buddemeyer (Naples, Fla./Seacrest Country Day), Danielle Witri (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood) and Caitlin Shipp (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) with five kills apiece. Freshman Robyn Marks (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Mott) and senior setter Breana Freeman (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) each hit double-figures in assists with 12 and 10, respectively.
Defensively, senior libero Rachel Gulasey (Cleveland, Ohio/Magnificat) led the way with 12 digs, while Marks totaled 10.
Versus Kalamazoo, freshman Carolyn Bogart (New Berlin, Wis./New Berlin Eisenhower) led the offense with eight kills, while sophomore Natalie Southard (Buffalo, N.Y./City Honors School) chipped in with five. Freeman totaled nine assists and Gulasey recorded 14 digs.
The Spartans wrap up the weekend on Saturday, September 1 versus Anderson University (Ind.) at 11:00 a.m. and Franklin College (Ind.) at 1:00 p.m.
