CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Case Western Reserve University baseball team (21-12-1 overall) will look to sweep the season series with cross-town rival Baldwin-Wallace College (24-7 overall) when the two meet in a single, nine-inning game on Wednesday, April 18. First pitch is set for 4:00 p.m. at Nobby's Ballpark.

The Spartans defeated the Yellow Jackets earlier this month by a score of 18-9 in Berea. In the win, freshman utility player Andrew Gronski smacked his first career homerun as the Spartans tied season-highs in both runs and hits (17).

For the season, junior first baseman Brett Ossola leads the team with a .358 batting average to go along with a homerun and 20 RBI -- four of which came during the last meeting with B-W. Junior centerfielder Paul Pakan has a .351 batting average and leads the team in hits (46) and slugging percentage (.557), while senior outfielder Sam Alexander is a .331 hitter with three homers and a team-high 29 RBI. Senior catcher Peter Zak, the reigning UAA Hitter of the Week, is a .350 batter, with a .400 clip (10-for-25), a homer, four doubles and six RBI during the last 10 games. Gronski has been one of the team's top hitters of late, batting .324 with three homers, 10 runs scored and seven RBI over the last 10 contests.

Junior left-handed pitchers Jarrett Gish and Jamie Hora continue to lead the Spartan pitching staff. Overall, Gish is 5-1 with a 3.40 ERA to go along with 49 strikeouts against just seven walks, while Hora is a perfect 7-0 for the spring with a 3.35 ERA and 45 Ks. Freshman right-hander Edward Abramson checks in at 3-2 with a 2.63 ERA and 30 Ks in 37.2 innings. Out of the bullpen, sophomore RHP Jose Vega has a team-high eight saves to go along with a 5.11 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 12.1 innings.

The Yellow Jackets have won six of their last seven contests with the only setback occurring during a doubleheader split with Heidelberg University yesterday afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference action in Tiffin. Junior outfielder Brandon Toughey leads Baldwin-Wallace with a .407 batting average to go along with team-highs in runs scored (43), stolen bases (16-of-16) and walks (16), while freshman outfielder/first baseman Kyle Chontos possesses a .388 average and paces B-W with 11 doubles, four homers and 32 RBI. Freshman infielder Zach Ferster is hitting .387 with a team-best four triples along with two homers and 29 RBI, while senior shorstop Anthony Longhitano (.373) and junior shortstop Jay Yost (.343) are also hitting the ball over a .340 clip. Sophomore Corey Waite leads the B-W staff with a 1.89 ERA to go along with 15 strikeouts in 14 appearances, while junior Pat Havens is 7-1 in 46.0 innings pitched with a team-best 60 strikeouts.  Additionally, senior Josh Scott (7-0, 4.76 ERA) and junior David Redovian (5-2, 5.44 ERA) have each logged more than 46 innings individually.
