Box Score 2 CLEVELAND, Ohio – Despite rainy weather in Northeast Ohio, the Case Western Reserve University baseball team (20-11-1 overall) is set to play Bethany College (W. Va.) this afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at Nobby's Ballpark. Weather throughout the remainder of the day will dictate whether a single game or doubleheader will be played.

The Spartans earned a split in Friday's doubleheader at The College of Wooster at Art Murray Field. Case won the opener by an 8-4 score before falling in the nightcap, 5-4. Junior Paul Pakan leads the team with a .360 batting average to go along with five homers and 21 RBI. The centerfielder also leads the team in hits (45) and slugging percentage (.568). Senior leftfielder Sam Alexander is a .328 hitter with three homers and a team-high 27 RBI. Senior catcher Peter Zak is a .342 batter, with a .444 clip (8-for-18), a homer, four doubles and four RBI during the last seven games. Freshman utility player Andrew Gronski has also come on at the plate of late, batting .407 with three homers, 10 and seven RBI over the last seven contests.
Junior left-handed pitchers Jarrett Gish and Jamie Hora continue to lead the Spartan pitching staff. Overall, Gish is 5-1 with a 3.40 ERA to go along with 49 strikeouts against just seven walks, while Hora is a perfect 7-0 for the spring with a 3.35 ERA and 45 Ks. Freshman righthander Edward Abramson checks in at 2-2 with a 2.56 ERA and 22 Ks in 31.2 innings. Sophomore righthander Josh Suvak has seen increased innings over the last two weeks with a save and a 1.50 ERA in 12 innings of work, while sophomore RHP Jose Vega has a team-high eight saves to go along with a 5.11 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 12.1 innings.
The Bison had lost five-straight games before a 6-3 victory in the nightcap of a doubleheader last Saturday during Presidents' Athletic Conference play versus Washington & Jefferson College (Pa.). Junior Chuck Ziants leads Bethany with a .395 batting average to go along with 13 RBI, eight walks and three doubles, while classmate Brad Kubis boasts a .377 average, a homer and 14 RBI with team-highs in hits (23) and walks (15). Sophomore Juls Leto is hitting .349 with a homer and 11 RBI, while senior T.J. Zarewicz leads the Bison with 18 runs scored, five stolen bases and has been hit by a pitch a team-high 11 times. Additionally, freshman Derek Miller leads the team with 20 RBI and five doubles.
Freshman Ryan Meier leads the Bethany staff with a 2.67 ERA and 17 strikeouts along with a 2-1 record, while freshman Tyler Kurtz and junior Ryan Styche have each started six contests and logged over 27 innings for the Bison. Additionally, Kubis leads the staff with a pair of saves.
