The Spartans remained perfect in three games at Nobby's Ballpark with a 9-4 victory on Sunday afternoon versus regional-rival Heidelberg University. Junior shortstop Matt Keen was 2-for-4 with a homerun in the win as Case scored at least once in each of the first five innings. On the mound, junior Jamie Hora threw eight solid innings to improve to 5-0. The left-handed ace allowed four earned runs on six hits with one walk and a career-high nine strikeouts. At the plate, freshman Andrew Gronski was 2-for-2 with a walk and three runs scored, sophomore infielder Andrew Frey was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a steal, and senior catcher Peter Zak was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run.
Entering this afternoon's game, junior centerfielder Paul Pakan continues to pace the squad with a .413 BA and a UAA-best three homeruns. Pakan, also the team leader in walks (11), is tied with senior outfielder Sam Alexander for team-high honors with 16 RBI. Keen has a team-high 20 runs after ranking second in the nation a season ago with 68. Junior first baseman Brett Ossola is second on the team with a .373 average, while senior left fielder Jimmy Abed, sophomore Jordan Dague and Keen each have five stolen bases. On the mound, Hora leads the way with a 3.47 earned run average, 29 strikeouts and 36.1 innings pitched. Senior Bradley Potter (2-2) owns a 3.54 ERA in 28 innings, while sophomore closer Jose Vega is second in the league with six saves. Junior lefty Jarrett Gish possesses a 2-1 record with a 4.37 ERA and 21 Ks in 22.2 innings pitched.
Otterbein has won five of its last eight contests, including a doubleheader sweep versus Ohio Christian University on Saturday afternoon by 9-2 and 5-2 scores in Chillicothe. Sophomore outfielder Thomas Linder leads the Cardinals offense with a .435 batting average in eight games played this spring. Junior infielder Wes Meadows boasts a .433 batting average and team-bests with four homeruns, eight doubles, 21 RBI and a .767 slugging percentage. Freshman outfielder AJ Finlay is batting .397 with 11 RBI, a triple and five stolen bases, while freshman infielder Billy Harkenrider has a .383 batting average and leads the team with 21 runs scored to go along with five doubles, a triple, a home run, nine RBI and five stolen bases in five attempts. Sophomore Bobby Hildebrand boasts a .326 average, five doubles, a triple, a home run and 16 RBI.
On the mound, senior Dustin Reuter posts a 2.61 ERA in five starts spanning 31 innings of work with 24 strikeouts, while junior right-hander David Cydrus enters with a 4-1 record with four starts covering 30 innings and a 3.30 ERA. As a staff, the Cardinals have a 3.81 ERA.
