SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The No. 14 nationally-ranked Case Western Reserve University men's swimming & diving team finished the dual meet portion of its 2011-12 schedule with a 124-40 victory versus NCAA Division II Notre Dame College (Ohio) on Friday evening at Mellon Pool. The Spartans (11-1) now prepare for the University Athletic Association Championship which is less than two weeks away.
The Spartans picked up wins in eight individual events and two relays en route to the 84-point victory.
Sophomore Heath Hudgins (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) was a double-winner with first-place times in the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.44) and 100 free (49.42 seconds).
Case's 400-yard medley relay won the first men's event of the night with a time of 3:38.43 from the quartet of freshman Alex Haufler (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key), sophomore Nick Clyde (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor), freshman Elliott Kerbel (Skokie, Ill./Niles West) and Hudgins.
In the final event of the evening, the Spartans took first in the 400 free relay with sophomore Gus Bailey (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City), Haufler, sophomore Scott McHenry (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) and Kerbel touching the wall in 3:16.91.
Next for Case is the 2012 UAA Championship Meet held from Wednesday through Saturday, Feb. 15-18, at the friendly confines of Veale Natatorium in Cleveland. Diving events run each day at William H. Johnson Natatorium on the campus of John Carroll University in University Heights with 1:00 p.m. prelims and 3:00 p.m. finals. Swimming events run from Thursday through Saturday at Veale with 10:00 a.m. prelims and 6:00 p.m. finals.
