Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CLEVELAND – The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team closed out the regular season with a pair of sweeps versus Ursuline College and Kenyon College on Saturday afternoon at Horsburgh Gymnasium.

The tri-match was designated as a "Dig for the Cure" event with proceeds going to benefit the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center for Breast Cancer Research as well as Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

The Spartans improve to 23-9 overall heading into next weekend's University Athletic Association Championship Tournament.

In the opening match of the day, the Spartans defeated Ursuline (5-27) by scores of 25-11, 25-23 and 25-20. The Spartan offense was led by freshman outside hitter Carolyn Bogart (New Berlin, Wis./New Berlin Eisenhower), who recorded 14 kills with only four errors in 24 attempts (.417). Senior setter Breana Freeman (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) quarterbacked the offense with 40 assists, while the defense was headlined by senior libero Rachel Gulasey (Cleveland, Ohio/Magnificat) with 20 digs.

In their second match of the day, the Spartans defeated Kenyon (3-19) by scores of 25-16, 25-18 and 25-18.

Bogart and Collins led the attack once again. Bogart amassed 11 kills versus just two errors in 17 attempts (.529), while Collins notched 11 kills with three errors in 21 attempts (.381). Freshman outside hitter Samantha Buddemeyer (Naples, Fla./Seacrest Country Day) aided the offense with eight kills.

Freeman posted another 40 assists and 10 digs for her 13th double-double of the season. Gulasey led the defense with 16 digs and is now just three shy of tying Andrea Lamont's (2006-09) program record of 2,190.

The Spartans now head south for the prestigious UAA Championship Tournament on Friday and Saturday, November 2-3, in Atlanta, Georgia. Seeded fourth, Case will take on the No. 5 seed, Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.), in the opening round.
