CLEVELAND, Ohio – The No. 12 nationally-ranked Case Western Reserve University men's swimming & diving team improved to 10-0 in duals this season and stretched the program's win streak to 14 meets with a 166-90 Seniors' Night victory versus Baldwin-Wallace College on Friday evening at Veale Natatorium.
The Spartans are right back in action tomorrow afternoon at Ohio Northern University at 1:00 p.m. in Ada.
Prior to the meet, CWRU honored its seven senior student-athletes with Sam Geiger (Westlake, Ohio/St. Edward) and Nathan Vonder Haar (Gahanna, Ohio/Columbus Academy) on the men's side.
The Spartans, who last lost a dual meet on November 20, 2010, opened the evening with the top three places in the 200-yard medley relay. The quartet of freshman Alex Haufler (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key), junior Kyle Tepe (Loveland, Ohio/Milford), freshman Tony Zhang (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) and sophomore Scott McHenry (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) took first with a time of 1:37.62.
Haufler also won a pair of individual events with a time of 25.02 seconds in the 50 backstroke and 53.30 in the 100 back.
Sophomore Sean Nickley (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) placed first in two events, the 50 butterfly (24.07) and 50 breaststroke (27.80), as did classmate Nick Clyde (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor) in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.25) and 200 individual medley (1:59.91).
In the final event of the night, the Spartans won the 200 free relay behind the team of Geiger, freshman David Wolfson (Austin, Texas/Liberal Arts and Sciences Academy), sophomore Tyler Piedimonte (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) and sophomore Karch Petersen (Nassau Bay, Texas/Lutheran South Academy).
