Box Score 2 ALLIANCE, Ohio -- The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team produced a pair of wins on day two of the 2011 Mount Union Invitational at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex. The Spartans opened the day with a 3-1 victory over the College of Mount St. Joseph and concluded their weekend cruising past Geneva College (Pa.) in straight sets, 3-0.
The Spartans opened up Saturday's action with a 25-22, 25-12, 24-26, 25-21 win versus the Lions. Spartan senior middle hitter Tricia McCutchan (Hamilton, Ohio/Stephen T. Badin) led the offensive attack with 13 kills against just three errors in 32 attempts. Aiding McCutchan was senior outside hitter Rachael Suchy (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) with 12 kills, while senior setter Breana Freeman (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) recorded a double-double with 32 assists and 10 digs. Junior libero Rachel Gulasey (Cleveland, Ohio/Magnificat) finished with 19 digs. Also of note, McCutchan posted two block solos and six block assists.
In the fourth and final match of the weekend, the Spartans picked up a straight-set victory by scores of 25-20, 25-19, 25-11. McCutchan paced the Spartan attack with 15 kills and a .480 hitting percentage, while junior Allie Palmer (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake) and Suchy posted double digits in kills with 11 and 10, respectively. Freeman handed out 43 assists against the Golden Tornadoes.
Individually, McCutchan was named to the All-Tournament team for the Spartans.
