Box Score CLEVELAND, Ohio – Junior midfielders Kendra Simmons (Medina, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) and Deena Levey (Columbus, Ohio/Bexley) each scored a goal and recorded an assist as the Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team defeated The College of Wooster, 2-1, on Saturday, September 24 at Case Field. The game was designated as a "Kicks for a Cause" event with all proceeds going to benefit America SCORES Cleveland.
With the win, the Spartans improve to 6-1-1 overall and will return to action on the road on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at North Coast Athletic Conference foe Ohio Wesleyan University. Kickoff with the Battling Bishops is set for 7:30 p.m. in Delaware.
Levey scored the night's first goal quickly in the seventh minute on a touch from about six yards out following a cross from Simmons.
Just under 13 minutes later, Wooster knotted the contest at 1-1 when a Paige Piper header that hit the crossbar was tapped into the net Kelsey Peters. The score remained tied at 1-1 at halftime.
Out of the break, the Spartans applied constant pressure, and Simmons found the back of the Fighting Scot net for her team-leading fifth goal in the 53rd minute. Levey dribbled the ball into the middle of the field about 18 yards out, took a shot that was out of the reach of the Wooster goalkeeper, hit the crossbar, and landed at the feet of Simmons. She tapped it in for what proved to be her team-best fourth game-winning goal of the fall and the duo's second game-winning connection in as many contests.
In goal for the Spartans, senior captain Anna Kennedy (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) posted three saves to move her record to 6-1-1. Michele Ring was credited with seven saves in net for the Fighting Scots.
Case outshot Wooster, 17-5, including 10-2 in the second stanza, and Wooster held a narrow 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.
