WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Case Western Reserve University softball team dropped a pair of road games, 4-3 and 10-2, against Otterbein University on Thursday, April 21. The Spartans, who had won 12-of-14, fell to 18-24 overall on the season.

Case is back on the field Monday, April 25 hosting cross-town rival Baldwin-Wallace College at Mather Park. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

There was no score through four innings in the opener, but Otterbein broke through with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it 3-0. Case battled back in the seventh, however, getting a two-run double from junior Lauren Wolz (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge) and a game-tying RBI hit by senior Anneliese Fetterman (Cupertino, CA/Monta Vista). With the score locked at three, the Cardinals scored the walk-off win in the bottom of the seventh on a fielder's choice.

Freshman Makenzie Lein (Petersburg, MI/Ida) dropped to 12-8 overall with the loss, pitching all six innings and allowing four earned runs.

In game two, Case jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third on an RBI double by Lein before the Cardinals pushed across five in the bottom-half of the inning to take a 5-1 lead. The Spartans answered with one run in the fourth on a solo home run by Wolz – her team-leading eighth of the season. Case would not score again, however, as Otterbein duplicated their third with another five runs in the fourth to enforce the eight-run rule and win by a final of 10-2.

Freshman Katherine Seo (Salt Lake City, UT/Olympus) was tagged with the loss in game two to fall to 6-9 on the year.
