Box Score 2 CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Case Western Reserve University softball team dropped a pair of games, 9-0 and 7-2, against visiting Denison University on Friday, April 1 at Mather Park. With the losses, Case dropped to 6-20 overall on the season as The Big Red improved to 13-3.
The Spartans will be back in action on Sunday, April 3 hosting Kenyon College at Mather Park. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
In game one the Spartans were victims of a no-hit, shutout performance by Denison's Rebecca Dyer who earned her sixth win of the season. The Big Red offense scored two in the first and did most of its damage during a five-run second frame. Case could not get the bats going in support of freshman hurler Makenzie Lein (Petersburg, MI/Ida) as she tossed all five and dropped to 4-6 on the season.
In the day's second contest, freshman Amy Taylor (Brier, WA/Inglemoor) left the yard in the second inning to record the Spartans' first hit and run of the afternoon. Trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the third, freshman Courtney Branson (Orient, OH/Teays Valley) added an RBI double to cut the Spartan deficit to two. Nevertheless, the Big Red would put up three insurance runs in the seventh inning to assure the sweep. Freshman pitcher Katherine Seo (Salt Lake City, UT/Olympus) was tagged with the loss, pitching all seven frames and dropping her record to 2-7 overall.
