Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Case Western Reserve University softball team suffered a pair of tough losses on the final day (Tuesday, March 8) of its trip to the National Training Center games. The Spartans fell to 11th-ranked Moravian College (PA), 9-1 in five innings, and Lebanon Valley College (PA), 11-1 in five innings. The team will now head to the University Athletic Association Championship in Altamonte Springs on March 10-14.
With the losses, the Spartans drop to 2-4 overall for the season.
In the opener, Case held its own and played even at 1-1 through three innings, but the nationally-ranked Greyhounds (2-1) took advantage of two walks, two hit batters and two errors to push six across in the fourth. Freshman Makenzie Lein (Petersburg, MI/Ida) started on the mound and suffered the loss. Freshman Katherine Seo (Salt Lake City, UT/Olympus) walked and stole a base en route to the lone Spartan run in the first inning.
Still feeling the effect of the tough game one loss, the Spartans allowed Lebanon Valley (2-2) to score four in the first and were never able to recover. Senior Mary Kruszka (Lakeview, NY/Immaculata Academy) was the losing pitcher. Seo had a single and a stolen base, while Lein singled and scored the lone run.
The Spartans first taste of UAA action will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 10 versus 20th-ranked Emory University (GA). The team is right back in action versus the University of Rochester (NY) at 12:30 p.m.
