Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Case Western Reserve University softball team, now 2-2 overall, split a pair of games on the second day (Monday, March 7) of its spring break trip to the National Training Center games. The Spartans dropped an 11-9 decision to Penn State Behrend University in the opener, but rebounded to outslug the Sage Colleges (NY), 15-13, in extra innings.
In game one, freshman Makenzie Lein (Petersburg, MI/Ida) pitched in two separate stints and totaled seven innings in the losing effort. At the plate, Lein, pictured right, was 3-for-4 with her first career homerun. Junior catcher Ianna Wasser (Warwick, RI/Toll Gate) and classmate Kaeleen Boden (Strongsville, OH/Holy Name) each homered, while junior Lauren Wolz (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge) was 2-for-4 with a double.
In game two, Case rallied with runs in the sixth and seventh to tie the score at 11. Both teams went scoreless in the eighth before the Spartans scored four in the ninth. Freshman Katherine Seo (Salt Lake City, UT/Olympus) got the win on the mound and was 2-for-5 at the plate. Senior Anneliese Fetterman (Cupertino, MA/Monta Vista) was 3-for-4 with four runs batted-in, including two on a double in the ninth. Lein was 2-for-5 and senior Beth Andrasik (Sagamore Hills, OH/Nordonia) collected three hits in four at-bats.
The Spartans wrap up their trip to the NTC Games tomorrow with a 9:30 a.m. matchup with Moravian College (PA) and an 11:30 a.m. battle with Lebanon Valley College (PA). Case then travels to Altamonte Springs for the University Athletic Association Championship on March 10-14.
