Box Score 2 ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – The Case Western Reserve University softball team dropped a pair of five inning games, losing 11-1 in an early contest against Washington University (MO) and then 12-1 in the day's second tilt against No. 10 Emory University (GA) on Saturday, March 12 at the University Athletic Association Championship at Seminole Field.
With the losses, the Spartans fall to 2-9 overall and 0-5 in the UAA. Emory improved to 19-0 (5-0 UAA) with the win, while Wash U. moved to 6-3-1 (3-1 UAA) on the season.
The Bears jumped on the Spartans early with five runs in the first and led 7-0 before Case plated its only run in the third on a sacrifice fly by freshman infielder Courtney Branson (Orient, OH/Teays Valley). Freshman Katherine Seo (Salt Lake City, UT/Olympus) took the loss for the Spartans as Polonsky led the charge for Washington, going 3-for-3 with four RBI.
In game two, the Spartans were done in by a nine-run second inning and trailed 12-0 when they scored their only run in the fourth inning on ground out by senior Anneliese Fetterman (Cupertino, CA/Monta Vista), which scored Seo. Senior Mary Kruszka (Lakeview, NY/Immaculata Academy) was saddled with the loss to fall to 0-3 on the season.
Case will be back on the diamond tomorrow (Sunday, March 13) versus the University of Rochester (NY) at 10:00 a.m. In the second half of the doubleheader, the Spartans will play Brandeis University (MA) at 12:30 p.m.
