Box Score ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – Three unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth cost the Case Western Reserve University softball team in a 9-6 loss to Brandeis University (MA) on the second day (Friday, March 11) of the University Athletic Association Championship at Seminole Field.
The Spartans fall to 2-7 overall and 0-3 in the UAA. Brandeis improved to 3-2 and 2-0 in UAA action.
Case rallied to tie the score with two runs in the top of the fifth and one more in the sixth. Freshman Makenzie Lein (Petersburg, MI/Ida) doubled in a run in the fifth then came around to score on an RBI single by junior Kaeleen Boden (Strongsville, OH/Holy Name). Freshman Katherine Seo (Salt Lake City, UT/Olympus) led off the sixth with a single, then stole second and scored when junior designated player Lauren Wolz (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge) singled to right. Brandeis scored a run following a fielding error in its half of the sixth, then had two more unearned runs score when Marianne Specker singled to right.
On the mound, Caroline Miller pitched two scoreless innings in relief to earn the win for the Judges. Seo (1-2) pitched four innings in relief for Case, allowing just one earned run on four hits, but was saddled with her second loss of the season.
At the plate, Boden was 2-for-3, while Lein and Seo were each 2-for-4.
The Spartans will look to snap a four game losing skid tomorrow versus Washington University (MO) at 10:00 a.m.
