Case Men Finish Fourth, Women Sixth at 2011 UAA Swimming & Diving Championships

WEBSTER, N.Y. – The Case Western Reserve University men's and women's swimming & diving teams picked up two more medals on the final day (Saturday, Feb. 19) of the 2011 University Athletic Association Championships at the Webster Aquatic Center. The Spartan men wrapped up the meet fourth overall, recording 1,117 team points. The women's squad was sixth with a tally of 763.5.

For the Spartan men, it was their best team finish since the 2006 meet. Combined, the teams secured seven medals at the four-day event.

A pair of freshmen, Sean Nickley (Springfield, VA/West Springfield) and Maggie Dillione (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North), highlighted the evening for Case as they each took third in their respective events. Nickley touched in 2:05.90 to record an NCAA Provisional cut and earn All-UAA honors in the 200 breast, while Dillione also took All-UAA honors in the 200 fly with an NCAA Provisional time of 2:07.01.

Individually, senior Robby Browning (Grosse Pointe, MI/Grosse Pointe South) capped an impressive weekend with his seventh-place finish in the 200 backstroke in 1:55.15. Freshman Gus Bailey (Grove City, OH/Grove City) also continued his strong meet with a sixth-place result of 46.68 in the 100 free.

On the women's side, senior Jacquie Buckler (Brookfield, WI/Brookfield East) and freshman Sara Tillie (Fallston, MD/Fallston) both picked up top-10 finishes for the Spartans in the 200 breaststroke finals. Buckler finished ninth in a time 2:25.15, while Tillie touched in 2:27.54 to take tenth.

In the 400 freestyle relay, the Case women finished fifth with a time of 3:33.68 also an NCAA Provisional cut. The men's foursome placed sixth in the 400 free.
