WOOSTER, Ohio -- The No. 10 nationally-ranked Case Western Reserve University men's swimming & diving team maintained its lead on day two of the 2011 College of Wooster Invitational. The Spartans will look to clinch a second-straight Wooster Invite Title on the third and final day tomorrow.
The Spartans' 951 points are ahead 54.5 ahead of second-place Ohio Northern University (896.5). A pair of Division II Pennsylvania schools, Edinboro University (731.5) and Gannon University (725), are third and fourth, respectively.
Day three of the invitational begins with 10:00 a.m. prelims tomorrow morning. Finals are slated for 5:00 p.m.
Sophomore Nick Clyde (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor) turned in Case's top performance of the event with a second-place showing in the 400-yard individual medley (4:15.68). Classmate Scott McHenry (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) was fourth with a time of 4:17.56.
Senior Sam Geiger (Westlake, Ohio/St. Edward) was fifth in the 200 free in 1:45.23, while sophomore Sean Nickley (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) was fifth in the 100 breaststroke in 59.77.
In relay events, the 800 free quartet of freshman Eric Haufler (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key), McHenry, freshman Elliott Kerbel (Skokie, Ill./Niles West) and Geiger were third with a mark of 7:00.37.
