Box Score CLEVELAND, Ohio – In its final tune-up before the University Athletic Association Championship Tournament, the Case Western Reserve University volleyball team worked some younger players into the mix and swept Oberlin College on Seniors' Night at Horsburgh Gymnasium.
The Spartans end the regular season at 21-8 overall and will now prepare for the UAA Championship on Friday and Saturday, November 4-5 at New York University. Case enters as the No. 4 seed and will play host NYU on Friday at 2:00 p.m.
Case defeated Oberlin (1-25) by scores of 25-7, 25-13 and 25-14.
Prior to the match, CWRU honored its three volleyball senior student-athletes, middle hitters Tricia McCutchan (Hamilton, Ohio/Stephen T. Badin) and Ellie Lyman (Sawyer, Mich./Bridgman) as well as outside hitter Rachael Suchy (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township).
As a team, the Spartans turned in a season-high hitting percentage of .434. McCutchan posted 12 kills without an error in just 16 attempts for a .750 percentage. Lyman totaled nine kills.
Junior setter Breana Freeman (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) paced the offense with 30 assists and posted four kills in just seven attempts.
Defensively, McCutchan totaled 11 digs for her 12th double-double of the season and recorded her 468th career block – just one away from tying the school record set by Krissa Kean (1995-98). McCutchan is already the school's all-time kills leader (1,875).
