Box Score PEPPER PIKE, Ohio – In its final tune-up before the second University Athletic Association Round Robin of the season, the Case Western Reserve University volleyball team earned a 3-1 victory versus host Ursuline College on Tuesday evening at O'Brien Athletic Center. The Spartans won by scores of 25-21, 18-25, 25-22 and 25-18.
The Spartans improve to 15-7 overall and will play four matches in two days at the UAA Round Robin #2 on Saturday and Sunday, October 15-16 in Rochester, N.Y. With the loss, Ursuline drops to 6-11.
Freshman Natalie Southard (Buffalo, N.Y./City Honors School) led the attack with a career-high 16 kills with a .364 hitting percentage. Senior middle hitter Tricia McCutchan (Hamilton, Ohio/Stephen T. Badin) and junior middle hitter Hanna Collins (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) also hit in double-figures with 14 and 10 kills, respectively. The 10 kills were a career-best for Collins.
Junior setter Breana Freeman (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) posted a double-double with 49 assists and 18 digs.
Defensively, junior specialist Olivia Stanton-Ameisen (Bryn Mawr, Pa./The Baldwin School) totaled a team-high 19 digs.
On Saturday, Case plays Brandeis University (Mass.) at 12:30 p.m. and Washington University (Mo.) at 2:30 p.m. The Spartans close the weekend on Sunday versus Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.) at 12:00 p.m. and New York University at 2:00 p.m.
