Box Score 2 CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team lost a pair of matches on day two (Saturday, September 4) of the Pacific Coast Classic hosted by Pomona Pitzer College at Lilliore Green Rains Center in Claremont. The Spartans fell to Claremont McKenna College (CA), 3-1, and University of Redlands (CA), 3-2.
The Spartans finish the weekend at 2-2 following their victories versus Chapman University (CA) and Pomona Pitzer (CA) yesterday.
Versus Claremont, junior ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American Tricia McCutchan (Hamilton, OH/Stephen T. Badin) led the offense with 16 kills and sophomore Breana Freeman (Geneva, OH/Geneva) totaled 44 set assists. Defensively, Rachel Gulasey (Cleveland, OH/Magnificat) recorded a team-high 24 digs.
Versus Redlands, McCutchan totaled 27 kills and Freeman posted 53 assists. McCutchan also recorded five block assists and Gulasey posted 24 digs.
The Spartans are back in action on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 10-11. Case co-hosts a tournament with Baldwin-Wallace College and will play four matches on its home court. The tournament opener versus Oberlin College at 4:00 p.m. will be the first athletic event played on the newly remodeled floor surface at Horsburgh Gymnasium.
