Box Score CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team returned from a week off of competition and picked up right where it left off by outlasting local-rival John Carroll University in five games on Tuesday, September 28 at Horsburgh Gymnasium. The Spartans have now won nine matches in a row and 10 of 11 overall.
With the win, the Spartans improve to 12-3 for the season and return to action tomorrow night with a home match versus Hiram College at 7:00 p.m. With the loss, John Carroll falls to 13-7.
The Spartans won the first two games, 25-21 and 27-25, before JCU took the next two, 25-20. Case then rallied to take the fifth set, 15-12.
Junior middle hitter Tricia McCutchan (Hamilton, OH/Badin) posted a team-high 15 kills and junior outside hitter Rachael Suchy (Venetia, PA/Peters Township) totaled 12. Sophomore setter Breana Freeman (Geneva, OH/Geneva) paced the offense with 44 assists while sophomore Kara Monnin (Minster, OH/Minster) led the defense with 27 digs.
Following tomorrow's match versus Hiram, the Spartans open University Athletic Association play on Saturday and Sunday, October 2-3, at the UAA Round Robin #1 at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.
