Box Score 2 CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team posted a 1-1 record on day one (Friday, September 10) of the Marcia French Memorial Tournament at Horsburgh Gymnasium. The tournament is being co-hosted by Case and Baldwin-Wallace College and will wrap up on Saturday.
Case defeated Oberlin College in three games and lost to the University of Mount Union in four hard-fought games. The Spartans wrap up the weekend tomorrow versus John Carroll University at 10:00 a.m. and the College of Wooster at 1:00 p.m.
Versus Oberlin, Case won 26-24, 25-10 and 25-16. Junior ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American Tricia McCutchan (Hamilton, OH/ Badin) led the offense with 14 kills. Sophomore setter Breana Freeman (Geneva, OH/Geneva) totaled 26 set assists and eight digs and senior outside hitter Beth Karpinski (Avon Lake, OH/Avon Lake) recorded six service aces.
Versus Mount Union, Case lost 17-25, 12-25, 25-21 and 23-25. McCutchan once again posted 14 kills and Freeman totaled 34 assists and 16 digs.
Following tomorrow's matches, the Spartans are back in action on Wednesday, September 15 at Baldwin-Wallace at 7:30 p.m. in Berea.
