Box Score ATLANTA, Ga. –The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team dropped a tough 2-1 decision in overtime to No. 6 Emory University on Sunday, October 31 after leading 1-0 for the majority of regulation. The game-winner for EU came in the 92nd minute as the Spartans fell to 9-7-1 overall and 1-5 in the University Athletic Association with the loss.
With the overtime win, Emory improves to 14-1-3 with a 4-1-2 record in the UAA.
Case got on the board in the 28th minute when Kendra Simmons (Medina, OH/Walsh Jesuit) scored off a header following a corner by Devyn Lee (Pennsylvania Furnace, PA/State College). The set play led to Simmons' team-leading eighth goal of the season, while Lee got credit for her fifth assist of the year.
The Spartans would hold onto a 1-0 advantage until the 73rd minute when Emory's Lee Bachouros found the net for her first goal of the season, but the two teams battled to a stalemate for the rest of regulation.
EU's Kelly Costopoulos then nailed the game-winner from inside the box in the 92nd minute to seal the win.
Junior goalkeeper Anna Kennedy (Evanston, IL/Evanston Township) played a fantastic match in net for the Spartans, saving nine shots as Emory held an 11-3 advantage in shots on goal. Emory also edged Case, 6-2, in corners.
Case has now played four matches against ranked opponents this season, compiling a record of 0-3-1. With one game remaining in the regular season, it won't get any easier for the Spartans as they travel to New York to take on No. 24 Rochester in another UAA contest on November 6 at 5:00 p.m.
