Box Score CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team swept visiting Ursuline College, 3-0, on Thursday, October 28 at Horsburgh Gymnasium. The event was designated as a "Dig for a Cure" match with all proceeds going to benefit Susan G. Koman for the Cure.
With the win, the Spartans improve to 21-7 overall heading into a tri-match versus Otterbein University and the University of Mount Union on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 3:00 and 5:00 p.m., respectively, in Alliance. With their loss, the Aeros fall to 15-16.
The Spartans won by scores of 25-14, 25-23 and 25-18. Junior middle hitter Tricia McCutchan (Hamilton, OH/Stephen T. Badin) led the attack with 14 kills and a .407 hitting percentage. Sophomore Bre Freeman (Geneva, OH/Geneva) set the offense with 36 assists and led the defensive effort with 21 digs.
Sophomore libero Rachel Gulasey (Cleveland, OH/Magnificat) contributed 15 digs to the defense and senior outside hitter Beth Karpinski (Avon Lake, OH/Avon Lake) totaled 13. McCutchan also recorded a block solo and three block assists.
Following Saturday's tri-match at Mount Union, the Spartans are idle until hosting the 2010 University Athletic Association Championship Tournament on Friday and Saturday, November 5-6.
