Jim Kiernan joined the Case Western Reserve University football coaching staff before the 2026 season as the quarterbacks coach, bringing with him 30 years of coaching experience.

Kiernan comes to CWRU after having most recently served as the offensive coordinator at Shaker Heights High School since the 2023 season. In his role, he helped the team record its highest point total over a season in over 20 years, while notching the most wins by the program in over a decade.

Kiernan also brings additional collegiate head coaching experience to the staff, guiding the Gannon University squad from 2007-11. He recorded 20 total wins during that time period, including winning seasons in both 2009 and 2010.

Before his duties at Shaker Heights, he had spent the previous 10 years as a collegiate offensive coordinator at both Concordia University of Chicago (2013-18) and Lake Forest College (2019-21). He has also held coordinator positions at Kentucky Wesleyan (1990-94), Alabama A&M (1994-95), Mercyhurst University (1995-98), Lakeland (1998-99), and Saginaw Valley State (1999-06).

Kiernan received his Bachelor of Science in Economics from St. Lawrence University, where he was a four-year letterwinner for the football team.
