Prior to CWRU

Competed for the Roy C. Ketcham Senior High School cross country team for three seasons and the track & field team for four seasons, serving as a captain during his junior and senior years… Coached by Charles Ropes, Robert Briskey, and Charles Williams… Was his league’s cross country champion and the county runner-up, while winning his team’s Most Valuable Performer award as a senior… Was his league’s champion in the indoor 3,200m run and the outdoor 3,000m steeplechase… Also placed second in the section in the 3,000m steeplechase… Was a two-time NYSPHAA All-Sportsmanship Award winner… Recorded career-best times of 15:43 in the 5,000m run and 9:55 in the 3,000m steeplechase… Graduated ninth in his class and was an AP Scholar with Honors… Also played soccer in high school.
