Senior (2018): Named to the All-University Athletic Association Second Team… Started all 10 games he pitched in during the season, going 4-1 with a 3.25 earned run average… Struck out 36 batters and walked just 13 over 55.1 innings of work, while holding opponents to a .256 batting average… Pitched eight shutout innings in a win over Ohio Wesleyan on March 25, allowing seven hits and a walk, while striking out four batters… Named the UAA Pitcher of the Week on April 9, following a win over Brandeis, during which he went 7.2 innings and surrendered just one earned run on four hits… Gave up three or fewer earned runs in eight of his 10 starts… Received UAA All-Academic honors… Ended his senior season ranked sixth in school history with a .246 batting average against, ninth with a 3.54 earned run average and tied for 15th with 10 career victories.
Junior (2017): Had a breakout season for the Spartans during his junior year, going 4-1 with a 2.51 ERA over eight appearances and six starts… Struck out 20 batters and walked just nine over 32.1 innings of work, while limiting opponents to a .198 batting average… Allowed just three extra base hits during the season… Held right-handed hitters to a .193 average (17-of-88) and opposing batters hit just .183 (13-of-71) with the bases empty during the campaign… Allowed one run or fewer in four of his six starts… Held Rochester to one unearned run on one hit and two walks, while striking out seven batters in a win on March 18… Pitched six innings in a combined shutout against Brandeis on April 1, striking out three and giving up only two hits… Also earned wins during starts against Emory and N.C. Wesleyan during the campaign… Received UAA Spring All-Academic Recognition.
Sophomore (2016): Missed the entire 2016 season due to injury… Earned UAA All-Academic honors.
Freshman (2015): Pitched in eight games during his freshman season, making five starts…finished the year with a 2-1 record and a 5.22 ERA…held opponents to a .272 batting average…struck out 18 batters over 29.1 innings of work…made his collegiate debut with a perfect inning of work, including a strikeout, against Brandeis on March 10…pitched seven shutout innings with three strikeouts, two walks and just four hits allowed against Allegheny on April 4.
Personal: Earned two varsity letters at Wooster High School…named to All-Ohio Cardinal Conference First Team and All-District First Team in 2014…also a second-team All-OCC selection in 2013…honor roll student all four years…son of Lisa Murphy and Greg Murphy.
