Biography

Senior (2017): Named to the All-University Athletic Association Second Team, marking the second-consecutive season he has claimed the honor… Led all CWRU players during the season with 37 runs and 52 hits… Started all 39 games he played in, batting .325 (second on the team) with six doubles, four triples, one home run, 24 runs batted in and 10 stolen bases on 12 attempts… Recorded a slugging percentage of .431 with a .401 on base percentage… Reached base at a .472 clip when leading off an inning and hit .339 with runners on base… Drove in runners from third base with less than two outs 13 times in 14 such situations… Did not commit an error on 99 chances in centerfield during the year, recording six outfield assists… Led the team with 20 multiple-hit games, including three three-hit affairs and a four-hit game during the year… Reached base safely in all but six games during the campaign… Hit the first home run of his career in his final game as a Spartan, helping the team to an 8-5 win over Baldwin Wallace on May 7… Went four-for-six with four runs scored, two RBIs and a stolen base in a 20-15 win at #3 Emory on March 25… Went one-for-one with four walks in an 8-0 win over Rochester on March 18… Was three-for-five with two runs scored and two RBIs against John Carroll on April 25, including the school-record setting 11th triple of his career… Received UAA Spring All-Academic Recognition… Started 152 games and played in 160 total over his career as a Spartan, batting .314 with 131 runs scored, 88 RBIs, 40 extra base hits and 30 stolen bases on 36 attempts… Ranked fourth in school history in career runs (131) and sixth in hits (192).

 

Junior (2016): Named to the All-UAA Second Team… Hit .326 during the season, matching his career-high… Collected 56 hits during the season, including 11 doubles and four triples, while scoring 43 runs and driving in 23… Stole a career-high 14 bases on 16 attempts… Played in 41 games, including 40 as a starter… Selected to the UAA All-Tournament Team after batting .394 with seven runs, five RBIs, three doubles and three stolen bases over the eight conference games… Recorded an 11 game hitting streak between February 28th and March 19th, the longest during the season by a Spartan player…  Led the Spartans with 15 multiple-hit games during 2016… Selected as the UAA Hitter of the Week on April 18th after batting .577 (15-for-26) over six games, including a five-hit performance against Wooster… Hit .353 (28-for-136) against right-handed pitching… Earned UAA All-Academic honors.

Sophomore (2015): Played in 38 games during the season, making 36 starts…hit .272 (37-for-136) with three doubles and a team-best three triples…tied for second on the team with 27 runs scored and drove in 18 runs…stole five bases on as many attempts…was four-for-six with the bases loaded during the year…had a .438 on base percentage when leading off an inning…drove in a season-high three runs against Heidelberg on April 16…notched three hits against NYU on March 12th, and against DePauw on both April 25th and 26th…earned UAA All-Academic recognition. 

Freshman (2014): Played in 42 games with 37 starts as a freshman centerfielder…batted .326 with 23 RBI…totaled a team-best three walk-off hits provided walk-off single in the bottom of the 13th in an NCAA Mideast Regional Elimination Game versus Widener on May 18…also came up with walk-off singles versus Baldwin Wallace on April 24 and in game one of a doubleheader versus Washington & Jefferson on April 12…collected four hits in a game three times…posted a season-best four RBI in an NCAA Mideast Regional Elimination Game against Thomas More on May 18.

Personal: Earned three varsity letters a tArchbishop Hoban High School…named first-team All-Ohio as a senior as well as North Coast League MVP…2012 second-team All-NCL…high honors student…younger brother of former CWRU baseball player Kerrigan and the son of Brian and Carol Cain.
