The Case Western Reserve University Department of Physical Education and Athletics was saddened to learn of the loss of former football standout and Spartan Club President Jack Moskal, who passed away at the age of 90.

Moskal, a 1958 graduate of Western Reserve University, was an explosive runner who led the Redcats to the first-ever Presidents' Athletic Conference football title in 1955. Moskal led WRU in rushing, scoring, and returns for two seasons (1955 and 1956). He was named the team's Most Valuable Player in 1956, setting a national record with a 99-yard run in the final game of the season against Case Tech.

Moskal was also a key defensive back, leading the Redcats in interceptions, and was the team's top punter for two years. He was also a standout track performer, earning a pair of letters in the sport. He was named the Cleveland Touchdown Club's College Player of the Year in 1956.

Moskal was the first player, and the youngest at the time of his induction in 1985, from the PAC-era to be elected to the CWRU Hall of Fame.

In addition to his accomplishments on the field, he went on to continue supporting the CWRU athletic department as a member of the Spartan Club, and served as the organization's president from 1986-87.

"Jack was an outstanding linebacker, and in my estimation, the greatest Spartan Club President the organization has had in its 50-year history," said Doug Leary, another Spartan Club Hall of Fame inductee and former Spartan Club President. "When Jack was President, great things happened. He was a great organizer and great leader who motivated everyone to engage. He was one of the most positive, greatest human beings I have ever met."

A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, October 17, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Jerome's Catholic Church in Cleveland. A Celebration of Life with light food and drinks will follow the service at The Shoreby Club in Bratenahl, Ohio.
