Case Western Reserve University sophomores Alex Eby, Micah Rossen, and Tara Markovic each earned University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week honors following their performances this weekend.
Eby, the UAA Men's Soccer Athlete of the Week for Defense, helped the Spartans record two shutouts during the team's 3-0-0 week. Eby played the most minutes of any CWRU field player, logging 240 minutes out of a possible 270 across the three contests. On Tuesday night, he helped the Spartans shut out Oberlin with the squad allowing just two shots with none on target in the contest. Lycoming managed just two shots in a shutout loss to Case Western Reserve on Saturday, including only one on goal. On Sunday, Allegheny's only goal was an own goal by CWRU with the Gators taking six shots with three on goal during the Spartans' 3-1 victory.
Eby has appeared in a team-high 489 minutes this season with the squad allowing just three goals on 35 shots in six contests. This is his first career UAA Athlete of the Week honor.
Rossen, the Men's Soccer Athlete of the Week for Offense, scored four times for the Spartans, finding the back of the net in all three contests for CWRU. Rossen started the week with a goal in the team's 4-0 road win over Oberlin on Tuesday night, leading the squad with five shots, including three on goal, in just 53 minutes of play. He doubled the team's lead to 2-0 in an eventual 3-0 victory over Lycoming at home on Saturday, finishing the contest with three shots on goal in 59 minutes. To close out the week, Rossen scored twice in a 3-1 home win over Allegheny on Sunday, tying the game at 1 in the eighth minute and adding the third Spartan goal in the 31st minute of play.
Rossen currently leads the UAA with 14 points on a league-high six goals with two assists. This is his first career UAA Athlete of the Week honor.
CWRU remained unbeaten in 2026, improving to 6-0-0 with the three victories last week. Case Western Reserve will continue its four-game homestand on Saturday, September 19 when the Spartans host Kenyon at 6 p.m.
Markovic, the Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week, won all three of her matches at the Big Red Invite hosted by Denison University on Saturday and Sunday in Granville, Ohio. In singles play, Markovic defeated Maia Nowicki of Denison 7-5, 7-6 (4). She won both of her doubles matches 6-0, partnering with Allison Wayne to take down Sara Dunn and Carrie Forster of Centre and pairing with Yasemin Bilgin to defeat Sophia DeGuzman and Nyah Montague of Kalamazoo. This is her first career Athlete of the Week honor.
CWRU went 14-8 in singles matches and 10-4 in doubles matches at the invite. The Spartans will travel to Gambier, Ohio, this weekend for the Kenyon Invite hosted by Kenyon College on Saturday and Sunday.
