Debeljak & Kavcic to Represent CWRU Football at PAC Media Day

Head Coach Greg Debeljak, who will be embarking on his 23rd season at the Spartans' helm, and junior defensive back Jake Kavcic will be representing the Case Western Reserve University football team at the annual Presidents' Athletic Conference Media Day on Tuesday, August 4 at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.

The Spartans are coming off a 4-5-1 record last year, including a 4-4 mark in PAC games, tying for fifth place in the league. CWRU is slated to return 71 players from last year, including 13 starters, as the now battle-tested team looks to build on the valuable experience it gained in 2025.

"It was as challenging a season on and off the field as I have ever experienced," said Debeljak. "We had probably our toughest schedule ever with six teams going on to play in postseason games. And I think we got the most out of our players as we could, at least until the last game of the season. We are viewing it as a learning experience, and now we know how to play and take on adversity, and are ready to thrive this year."

Debeljak holds a 148-67-1 career record, making him the winningest coach in program history in terms of both total victories and winning percentage (.688). He has been named the PAC Coach of the Year twice during his career.

Kavcic will headline the Spartans' secondary in 2026 after making a successful transition from the offensive side of the ball to strong safety before the 2025 campaign, earning a spot on the All-PAC Second Team. He led the team with three interceptions while accumulating 41 tackles, five tackles for loss, two sacks, and five pass breakups. Kavcic also saw time at running back in short-yardage situations, totaling 47 yards and four touchdowns, while returning 15 kicks for an average of 23.3 yards.

"Jake is our best football player. Physically, he has everything you're looking for as far as speed, quickness, and physicality," said Debeljak. "He was our best blitzer off the edge and created the most issues for opposing offenses. He is tough to block. He certainly has a nose for the ball. And, because of his offensive background, I think that makes it easier for him to play. Plus, you can throw in his leadership too. He will keep people accountable and his teammates respect him."

Coverage of the 2026 PAC Football Media Day will begin at 2:00 p.m. Live coverage of the event will be provided by the PAC Digital Network at https://www.pacdigitalnetwork.com/?B=4124802. CWRU will also be releasing the football media guide and season preview on Monday in advance of PAC Media Day.
