No. 15 Women’s Tennis Falls in NCAA Second Round

The 15th-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team fell to 10th-ranked Carnegie Mellon 4-1 in the Second Round of the 2026 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship at the JHU Tennis Courts on the campus of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.

The Spartans ended the season with a record of 13-7 in dual matches, while the Tartans, who will face fifth-ranked Johns Hopkins in the Third Round, improved to 18-7.

Doubles


  1. Graduate student Hannah Kassaie and senior Katalina Wang def. Kotistha Modak and Ika Kanumuri, 6-4
  2. Senior Ellior Rose and junior Katie Wong def. Divya Venkatarama and Ancele Dolensek, 6-2

  • The Spartans were making their fourth all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament with all four appearances coming in the last five years
  • CWRU fell to 4-4 all-time in postseason matches
  • Case Western Reserve at least advanced to the Second Round of the tournament in each of its four postseason appearances
  • CWRU fell to 2-14 since 2012 against Carnegie Mellon, dropping both matches against the Tartans this season
  • Kassaie and Wang, ranked 10th nationally, defeated the seventh-ranked national pair in Modak and Kanumuri

Though the team's season is over, Kassaie and Wang were both selected to the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships. The competition will be held from Friday, May 22 to Monday, May 25 at the Champions Tennis Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
