Behind a six-hit, six-RBI effort from junior infielder Karen Potts, the Case Western Reserve University softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader against Baldwin Wallace University on Saturday afternoon at the BW Softball Field in Berea, Ohio, winning the first game 10-5 and taking the second contest 7-1.
The Spartans improved to 23-12 this season, while the Yellow Jackets dropped to 20-12 after the sweep.
Potts went six-for-nine through the two games with two home runs, two doubles, a triple, six runs batted in, and five runs scored.
Stats and Standouts
- Senior infielder Elizabeth Berry had five hits in seven at-bats, recording multiple hits in both games
- First-year infielder Natalie Ching recorded two hits and three RBI in the first game and added a hit in the second contest
- First-year catcher Sophia Becker scored three times, had three hits, and drove in a pair of runs in the doubleheader
- Junior infielder Kaelyn Zusi had three hits, including a home run, and two RBI in the two contests
- Senior pitcher Devanghi Misra earned the start in the first game, striking out five in three innings of work
- Sophomore pitcher Laura Meoli (1-1) earned her first career win in relief, allowing just one run on two hits in four innings
- First-year pitcher/outfielder Camryn Mclelland (7-4) earned the win in the second game with six shutouts innings while striking out six. She also had two doubles at the plate, scoring once
Game 1: CWRU 10, BW 5
- Potts led off the game with a double and scored on a sacrifice fly by Zusi to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead
- With two outs in the second inning, Becker and junior outfielder Nylah Durham reached base on back-to-back singles
- Potts drove them both in with her first triple of the season and later scored on a single by Ching, increasing the team's lead to four
- Becker delivered a two-out, two-run single in the following frame, making the score 6-0
- After a hit batter, Potts recorded her third hit of the game, driving in another run
- Ching followed with a two-run single to give the Spartans a nine-run edge
- BW responded with four runs in the bottom of the frame to cut the deficit to five
- Neither team scored until the sixth, when sophomore outfielder Ashley Miller made the score 10-4 with a bases loaded single
- The hosts responded with a solo home run, but a flyout and two groundouts in the final frame secured the Spartan win
Game 2: CWRU 7, BW 1
- After two scoreless innings, Potts drove the first pitch of the third inning over the right field fence for her team-leading 10 home run of the season
- CWRU loaded the bases later in the inning, but a double play prevented the visitors from increasing their lead
- The Yellow Jackets put the first two runners on base in the bottom of the inning
- After a pop out, Mclelland recorded a strikeout and induced a lineout to maintain the one-run lead
- Back-to-back doubles by Becker and Mclelland put two runners in scoring position in the following inning
- Durham drove in a run with a sacrifice bunt, and Potts followed with a run-scoring groundout to increase the lead to three
- Zusi slugged her fourth home run of the season, a solo shot, in the fifth inning to make the score 4-0
- Junior outfielder Alaina Steffes hit a pinch-hit, two-run homer in the following inning, her fourth round tripper of the campaign
- Potts followed with her second home run of the game, putting the Spartans ahead by seven
- BW prevented a shutout with a run in the seventh inning

- The Spartans improved to 7-2 against Baldwin Wallace all-time and 4-1 in games played in Berea
- CWRU entered play on Saturday ranked 35th in the NCAA Power Index (NPI) and 14th among teams not leading their conferences. NPI is used to determine the 22 at-large selections to the NCAA Tournament
- With hits in both contests, Potts extended her on-base streak to 22 consecutive games. She has recorded a hit in 29 of the team's 35 games and reached base in 33 games. The three-hit games were her fifth and sixth such efforts this season, and she leads the team with 16 multi-hit contests
- Potts hit two home runs in the same game for the fourth time in her career. Her 11 this season are tied for the third most by a Spartan in a single campaign, and her 21 career homers are tied for seventh most ever by a CWRU batter
- Ching drove in a career high three runs in the first game, and Berry had her third three-hit game of the 2026 season
- The Spartans have hit at least two home runs in seven games this season, going 6-1 in those contests. Their four home runs in the second contest are tied for the second-most in a single game in team history
- CWRU has scored at least 10 runs eight times during the 2026 season, going 8-0 in those contests. Case Western Reserve has allowed five or fewer runs in 22 games, going 20-2
