Case Western Reserve University first-year Alexander Goldman, a member of the wrestling team, and junior Maura Schorr, a forward on the women's basketball team, have been named the Spartan Club Athletes of the Week for their performances this past week.
Goldman won a bracket for the first time in his career on Saturday at the 39th Annual John Summa Invitational hosted by Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio. Goldman went 3-0 in the 197-pound bracket with two wins by major decision to place first in the weight class. He started his day with an 11-0 major decision over Chris Howatt of Niagara CC and advanced to the final with a 13-4 major decision over Alfred State's Hunter LaVigne. In the final, Goldman faced Otterbein's Karson Nail. The Spartan wrestler secured a takedown in the first period and allowed an escape. He escaped from the bottom position in the second period to take a 4-1 lead and allowed only an escape in the final frame to hold on for a 4-2 decision in the championship match. The Spartan wrestling team placed first at the invitational for the first time in program history with 276.0 points. Goldman improved to 12-4 this season at 197 pounds with three pins and two technical falls.Â
The Spartans will head to the Big Apple for the 2026 University Athletic Association Championship hosted by New York University on Saturday, February 14. CWRU will take on 11th-ranked Chicago at 5 p.m. before a matchup against the 15th-ranked host Violets at either 6:45 or 8:30 p.m.
Schorr averaged 17.5 points and 9.5 rebounds over a pair of University Athletic Association games last weekend, including a win over Brandeis on Sunday. Schorr shot 56.0% (14-of-25) from the floor, including 33.3% (1-of-3) from three-point range, and made 75.0% (6-of-8) of her free throw attempts over the weekend, while adding 0.5 assists, 2.0 blocks, and 2.0 steals per game. In a 73-65 loss to top-ranked NYU on Friday night, Schorr scored 15 points and had 10 rebounds with one assists and a steal in just 20 minutes, making five-of-eight shots overall, connecting on her only three-point attempt, and hitting all four of her free throws. She followed that by registering a double-double with a career-high 20 points and 11 rebounds in a 72-69 win against Brandeis, adding a career-high with four blocks and totaling three steals, while shooting nine-of-17 from the floor. She hit the go-ahead shot with 24 seconds left, made a pair of free throws with five seconds left to expand the lead to three points, and blocked a shot at the buzzer to secure the win for the Spartans. Schorr has started all 20 games for the Spartans this season, averaging 10.3 points, 7.1 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 1.9 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game. The Spartans stand at 9-11 overall with a 2-7 UAA record.
CWRU will be back on the road next weekend, traveling to face the 17th-ranked University of Chicago on Friday, February 13, at 8:30 p.m. ET in Chicago, and 15th-ranked WashU on Sunday, February 15, at 1 p.m. ET in St. Louis.
The Spartan Club Athletes of the Week are selected by the CWRU Department of Athletics each Monday, based on their performance during the previous week of competition.

Sophomore runner Donovan Crowley (men's track and field) placed third in the mile run with a top 50 national time at the Jud Logan Light Giver in Ashland, Ohio, on Saturday. Crowley completed the race in 4:12.05, less than half a second slower than the school record mark. His time, when converted for track size, ranks sixth in the conference and 41st in Division III.
The Spartans will compete at a trio of meets next weekend. A contingent of distance runners will travel to Allendale, Michigan, for the GVSU Big Meet on Friday, February 13 and Saturday, February 14. CWRU will also compete at the Crimson & Gold Invite hosted by Oberlin College on February 13 and the Indoor All-Ohio Championships hosted by Otterbein University on February 14.Â
Graduate student guard Ethan Edwards (men's basketball) averaged 25.0 points and matched the school single-game steals record during a pair of games for the Spartans last weekend, including a win over Brandeis on Sunday. Edwards shot 40.0% overall (16-of-40), including 36.8% (7-of-19) from three-point range, and made 91.7% (11-of-12) of his free throw attempts over the weekend. He averaged just under 30 minutes per contest and added 4.0 rebounds, 4.0 steals, and 0.5 assists. He scored 24 points during the team's 89-75 loss to 25th-ranked NYU on Friday night, shooting 33.3% (7-of-21) overall, 36.4% (4-of-11) from long range, and 85.7% (6-of-7) from the free throw line with four rebounds, an assist, and a steal. On Sunday, he helped lead the Spartans to a 73-67 win over Brandeis with 26 points and matched a school record with seven steals. He shot 47.4% (9-of-19) overall, 37.5% (3-of-7) from behind the three-point line, and made all five of his free throw attempts, while collecting four rebounds. Edwards leads all Spartans with 17.8 points per game this season, while adding 3.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. The Spartans stand at 10-10 overall with a 2-7 University Athletic Association record.
CWRU will be back on the road next weekend, traveling to face the top-ranked University of Chicago on Friday, February 13, at 6:30 p.m. ET in Chicago, and 20th-ranked WashU on Sunday, February 15, at 3 p.m. ET in St. Louis.
Sophomore jumper Pierre-Andre Geoffrion (men's track and field) won the long jump with a top-six conference mark at the Bob Shannon Invitational hosted by Denison University in Granville, Ohio, on Saturday. Geoffrion leaped 6.61 meters in his penultimate attempt, the sixth furthest of any University Athletic Association athlete this season. He added a fifth-place finish in the 60-meter dash in 7.16 seconds. The CWRU men's team scored 104.0 points at the meet, the most out of 12 teams.
First-year Gabby Lee (women's tennis) won both of her matches for the Spartans, including the doubles clincher, during the 18th-ranked team's 5-2 win over 38th-ranked Hope College at the Mayfield Village Racquet Club in Mayfield, Ohio, on Friday afternoon. At first doubles, Lee paired with senior Katalina Wang to defeat Jana Beier and Amanda Lopykinski 6-4 to secure the doubles point for CWRU. At sixth singles, Lee did not drop a point to Kaitlyn Stievater, winning 6-0, 6-0 to give the Spartans a 2-0 lead in the match. Lee improved to 5-3 in singles play and 10-3 in doubles action this year. CWRU won its opening match of the spring season to improve to 1-0.
The Spartans will host the University of Rochester on Saturday, February 14 at the Mayfield Village Racquet Club. Action is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
Senior hurdler Grace Misiunas (women's track and field) matched her own school record in the 60-meter hurdles at the Bob Shannon Invitational on Saturday. Misiunas completed the finals of the event in 9.15 seconds, the second-fastest mark in the UAA this season and the 55th-best time in Division III during the campaign. She qualified for the final by winning her heat in the prelims with a mark of 9.17 seconds. Misiunas also 12th in the 200-meter dash in 27.56 seconds. Overall, the Spartan women placed second out of 12 teams at Denison with 94 points, just one point behind the host Big Red.
First-year diver Leila Monahan (women's swimming and diving) totaled over 800 points across two events for the Spartans at the Yellow Jacket Diving Invitational hosted by Baldwin Wallace University on Saturday. Monahan scored 427.85 in the 3-meter, an NCAA qualifying mark, and 386.15 in 1-meter.Â
The CWRU swimming and diving teams will next travel to Chicago for the University Athletic Association Championships. The four-day meet commences on Wednesday, February 11.
Sophomore Jon Totorica (men's tennis) helped the fifth-ranked Spartans open their 2026 spring season with four wins, going 3-0 in doubles matches with sophomore teammate Leon Chen, and 1-0 in singles contests. In a 7-0 win over Wabash, Totorica and Chen bested Augusto Ghidini and Rafael Rin (ranked 10th in the Central Region) 6-1 at no. 1 doubles. Later in the day, he teamed with Chen to defeat Davis Borders and Luis Angel Guerrero Lara 6-1 in the second doubles match in a 7-0 win over Anderson. He wrapped up his day by claiming a 6-4 win at no. 2 doubles with Chen against Scott Anderson and Thomas Hargreave, and topped Viktor Ronnberg 6-1, 6-0 at no. 4 singles in a 7-0 win against DePauw. Totorica, ranked 36th nationally in singles, improved to 9-3 in singles matches and 9-2 in doubles play this season.Â
Senior Thomas Wagner (wrestling) went 4-0 with four pins to win the 157-pound bracket at the 39th Annual John Summa Invitational hosted by Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio, on Saturday. Wagner started his day with a win by fall in 66 seconds over Dean Poppy of Ohio Northern before he defeated Thiel's Jacob Potts in 3:31 to reach the semifinals. In that round, he bested Alfred State's Owen Cummings in 3:50 to advance to the final of the bracket. Wagner saved his quickest pin for the last round, taking down Otterbein's Luke Dolan, who is ranked fifth in Region IV by the NWCA, in just 62 seconds to claim his second bracket of the season. This season, Wagner, who is ranked fifth in Region V, has a 32-7 record with 12 pins and six technical falls.Â
First-year diver Ryan Wells (men's swimming and diving) had a combined score over 900 across two events at the Yellow Jacket Diving Invitational hosted by Baldwin Wallace University on Saturday. Wells scored 453.75 in the 3-meter dive and 453.70 in the 1-meter dive, placing second in both events. Both marks are high enough for qualification to the NCAA regional meet.
