CWRU Ends Season with 93-83 ‘Senior Day’ Win over Carnegie Mellon

Case Western Reserve University graduate student guard Ethan Edwards closed out his career with his fourth 30-point effort of the year, and junior guard Julian Scott reached 20 points for the first time in his collegiate career, as the Spartans closed out their 2025-26 campaign with a 93-83 win over Carnegie Mellon University on 'Senior Day' at Horsburgh Gymnasium in Cleveland.

The Spartans ended their campaign with back-to-back wins to stand at 12-13 overall, including a 4-10 mark in University Athletic Association play, while the Tartans wrapped up their season with a 11-14 overall record and a 3-11 ledger in UAA contests.

Stats and Standouts


  • Edwards led all scorers on Saturday with 32 points, making 10-of-21 shots overall and six-of-15 from three-point range. He added four rebounds, two assists, a block, and matched his own program record with seven steals in a game for the second time this season.

  • Scott scored a career-high 21 points off the bench, shooting nine-of-12 overall and making one-of-two long-range attempts. He added eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

  • First-year forward Alex Vincent finished with 12 points and matched Scott for the team lead with eight rebounds.

  • As a team, CWRU had 15 steals and forced 20 total turnovers. The Spartans finished with a 28-13 edge in points off turnovers.

  • CWRU finished the game shooting 33-of-75 (44.0%) from the floor and 11-of-34 (32.4%) overall.

First Half


  • Edwards picked up where he left off after his record-setting 54-point effort on Sunday, scoring 25 points in the first half of Saturday's contest.

  • Senior Aaron Rucker opened the scoring on Saturday, knocking down the first three-pointer of his career on the Spartans' opening possession of the game.

  • CWRU led by as many as three points early on and held a 14-11 advantage with 16:15 left after three free throws from Edwards, but the Tartans followed with an 8-0 run to go ahead 19-14 with 15:04 on the clock.

  • The Spartans remained behind until Edwards connected on a three, then stole the ball on the next Carnegie Mellon possession and hit a jumper in transition to put CWRU back in front 27-26 with 11:15 left.

  • CWRU trailed 35-34 with 6:19 left in the half, but followed with a 9-0 run to take an eight-point lead, 43-35, with 4:09 on the clock.

  • Scott scored seven of his 14 first-half points in the final 3:05 of the first half to help CWRU lead by as many as nine points in the frame, and Edwards closed out the period with a three-pointer to send the Spartans into the break with a 53-45 lead.

Second Half


  • The Spartans scored the first five points of the second half to go ahead by 13, 58-45, with 18:10 left in the game.

  • Carnegie Mellon responded with a 10-0 run of their own to get back within three points, 58-55, by the 15:23 mark, before senior guard Anand Dharmarajan broke up the stretch with a three-pointer with 14:45 left.

  • After the Tartans pulled back within two points, CWRU scored five-straight points to go up 67-60 after a layup by first-year guard Shyam Patel off a steal with 13:20 left.

  • The Spartans pulled away as the half went on, going up 13 points, 83-70, after a second-chance layup from Patel with 8:13 to play in the game.

  • CWRU never saw its lead dip below seven for the rest of the game, en route to the 10-point win.

Spartan Notes


  • The Spartans celebrated 'Senior Day' prior to the start of Saturday's game, recognizing the team's four graduating players - Dharmarajan, Edwards, senior forward Andrew Fox, and Rucker. Together, the group has helped lead the team to 66 wins, two NCAA Tournament appearances, and the first two UAA Championships in program history over the last four years.

  • Edwards scored in double figures in each of the final 17 games of the season for the Spartans, averaging 23.5 points during the stretch. Saturday marked his ninth game of 20 or more points this year, and he ended the season leading the team with 20.1 points per contest. Edwards totaled 1,039 points over his career, including his time as an undergraduate at Brandeis.

  • CWRU improved to 49-41 all-time against Carnegie Mellon with the win on Saturday. The Spartans have won eight of the last 10 matchups against the Tartans, and split the season series with them in 2025-26.

  • The Spartans ended the campaign with a 6-4 home record.
