Case Western Reserve University graduate student guard Ethan Edwards was named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week, receiving the national recognition after his 54-point performance during the team's 110-98 win over the University of Rochester on Sunday.
Edwards, who was named the University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week on Monday, recorded one of the most impressive performances in the history of men's basketball in the league, setting a conference and program record with his 54 points in the game. Playing 36 minutes in the contest, he shot 18-of-29 overall (62.1%) and 12-of-21 from behind the three-point line (.571), also setting conference and school records for field goals and three-pointers made in a game. Edwards added a six-for-seven (.857) showing from the free throw line with six rebounds and a steal, while not committing a turnover in the game. The 54 points were the most in an NCAA game (any Division) this season, and he also surpassed 1,000 points for his career during the game (needing 47 points entering Sunday's action to reach the milestone).
Earlier in the weekend, Edwards scored 18 points against fifth-ranked Emory on Friday night with a four-of-nine shooting effort from the floor (44.4%), including three-of-five (60.0%) from three-point range, and made seven-of-eight free throw attempts with two rebounds, one block, and two steals. He averaged 36.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.5 steals overall for the weekend, shooting 57.9% overall, 57.7% from three-point range, and 86.7% from the free throw line.
Edwards has scored at least 10 points in 16 consecutive games and leads the team with 19.5 points per game this year.
Edwards becomes the first Spartan player this year to receive the weekly recognition from D3hoops.com, and is the first CWRU player to secure the award since Sam Trunley was named to the squad on January 14, 2025. He is the eighth player in program history to be named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week, joining Matt Clark (week 13 of the 2015-16 season), TJ Duckett (week 3 of the 2016-17 season and week 9 of the 2017-18 season), Cole Frilling (week 1 of the 2022-23 season), Mitch Prendergast (week 12 of the 2022-23 season), Umar Rashid (week 13 of the 2022-23 season), and Anthony Mazzeo (week 7 of the 2023-24 season), and Trunley (week 10 of the 2023-24 season, and weeks 1 and 7 of the 2024-25 season).
The men's basketball team stands at 11-13 overall with a 3-10 UAA record. CWRU will wrap up its 2025-26 campaign at home on Saturday, February 28, against Carnegie Mellon University at 1:00 p.m.
