Three Case Western Reserve University student-athletes - graduate student guard Ethan Edwards (men's basketball), senior Claire Kozma (women's swimming & diving), and junior pitcher/ infielder Tyler Stillson (baseball) - were each named the University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week, following their standout performances for the Spartans last week.
Edwards recorded one of the most impressive performances in the history of University Athletic Association men's basketball, setting a conference and program record with a 54-point performance in a 110-98 win over Rochester on Sunday. Playing 36 minutes in the contest, he shot 18-of-29 overall (62.1%) and 12-of-21 from behind the three-point line (.571), also setting conference and school records for field goals and three-pointers made in a game. Edwards added a six-for-seven (.857) showing from the free throw line with six rebounds and a steal, while not committing a turnover in the game. The 54 points were the most in an NCAA game (any Division) this season, and he also surpassed 1,000 points for his career during the game (needing 47 points entering Sunday's action to reach the milestone). In a 101-93 loss to fifth-ranked Emory on Friday night, he scored 18 points on a four-of-nine shooting effort from the floor (44.4%), including three-of-five (60.0%) from three-point range, and made seven-of-eight free throw attempts with two rebounds, one block, and two steals. Overall for the weekend, he averaged 36.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game, shooting 57.9% overall, 57.7% from three-point range, and 86.7% from the free throw line.
Edwards has scored at least 10 points in 16 consecutive games and leads the team with 19.5 points per game this year. This was his first UAA Athlete of the Week honor as a Spartan.
The men's basketball team stands at 11-13 overall with a 3-10 UAA record. CWRU will wrap up its 2025-26 campaign at home on Saturday, February 28, against Carnegie Mellon University at 1:00 p.m.
Kozma set a pair of school and pool records with NCAA B cut times at the Spartan Invite on Friday and Saturday at the Veale Natatorium in Cleveland. Both of Kozma's records came on the 400 Free Relay which she led off. She started the relay with a 100 Free time of 50.48 seconds, the eighth-fastest mark in Division III this season. The relay finished in a program-record time of 3:25.46, the 12th-best time in the country. Overall, the Spartans finished first out of four teams with 735 points at the meet.
Kozma secured her second UAA Athlete of the Week honor of her career, both of which have come this season.
The CWRU divers will head to Kalamazoo, Michigan, for the NCAA Diving Regional on Friday, February 27 and Saturday, February 28 for an opportunity to qualify for the NCAA Championships. The swimmers will await the selection announcement for the national meet, which is scheduled for Friday. The NCAA Championships will be held from Wednesday, March 18, to Saturday, March 21, at the IU Natatorium on the campus of IU Indianapolis in Indianapolis.
Stillson helped the 14th-ranked baseball team open its 2026 season with a three-game sweep of Oswego State University (an NCAA at-large team in 2025) at Nobby's Ballpark in Cleveland, contributing both as a hitter and a pitcher. Stillson, who saw time at designated hitter and first base, went seven-for-12 (.583) with a .643 on-base percentage and a .917 slugging percentage for a 1.560 OPS. He added three runs, three extra-base hits (two doubles and a triple), four RBIs, and two walks. He also made a start and earned the win in the second game of the series (a 7-1 CWRU victory), needing just 78 pitches to navigate five scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and a walk, while striking out a career-high 10 batters. He also went three-for-three at the plate in the game with a walk, two RBIs, and a double. In the first game of the series, a 12-7 CWRU win, Stillson was three-for-five with two runs, an RBI, a double, and a triple. He wrapped up the weekend by going one-for-four with a run, an RBI, and a walk.
This was Stillson's second career UAA Athlete of the Week honor and his first as a hitter.
