The Case Western Reserve University men's basketball team fell to the sixth-ranked University of Chicago 93-74 on Friday night at the Ratner Athletics Center in Chicago.
The Spartans dropped to 10-11 overall and 2-8 in University Athletic Association play, while the Maroons improved to 18-3 with an 8-2 mark in conference play.
Stats and Standouts
- Senior forward Andrew Fox led the Spartans with 15 points, making seven of his 12 shots from the floor
- First-year forward Alex Vincent recorded his third double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds, and graduate student guard Ethan Edwards added 12 points on a five-of-10 effort from the floor
- The Spartans shot 44.1 percent overall and 29.2 percent from beyond the arc, while the Maroons made 53.2 percent of their shots and 36.7 percent from long range
First Half
- The Spartans led 7-6 on a hook shot from Fox with an assist from first-year guard Shyam Patel four minutes into the first half
- The Maroons scored the next seven points to take a quick six-point advantage, but first-year guard Anestis Hadjistamoulou drained a three-pointer to halve the deficit
- CWRU reclaimed the lead midway through the period on a three-pointer by Patel, and the Spartans used a 9-2 run to lead 21-17 with exactly 10 minutes left in the frame
- Two and a half minutes later, Chicago retook the advantage, 25-23 with back-to-back three-pointers
- Fox tied the score at 25 with a layup, but the Maroons scored the next five points to go ahead 30-25 at 4:30
- The hosts extended their lead at the end of the half, going ahead by 14 points, 45-31, heading into the break
Second Half
- Senior guard Anand Dharmarajan cut the deficit to 11 with a hook shot two minutes into the half
- Chicago secured its largest lead to that point, 60-41, at 15:35 with an 11-3 run
- Back-to-back baskets made by Vincent and Edwards cut the deficit to 14 with 15:05 left in the game
- That would be the closest the Spartans would get to tying the score, as Chicago led by as many as 25 points

- CWRU dropped to 6-6 in road games this season and 1-5 against teams ranked in the top 25 nationally
- The Spartans fell to 26-46 all-time against Chicago
- Edwards has scored at least 10 points in 13 consecutive games for the Spartans, averaging 21.1 points during the stretch
- Case Western Reserve secured 14 offensive rebounds which led to 13 second chance points
- CWRU also held a 40-36 edge in points in the paint and a 34-19 advantage in points off the bench
