Case Western Reserve University sophomore defensive end Dominic Ghilani was selected as the Presidents' Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Spartans come from behind to defeat Westminster College 36-29 on the road last weekend.
Ghilani recovered a pair of fumbles and forced a third, while finishing the game with four tackles (all solo), including one sack, and a pass breakup. His first fumble recovery came at the 4:01 mark in the second quarter, leading to a CWRU touchdown that put the Spartans ahead 14-3 at the time. With the Spartans down seven with 8:11 left in the game, he recovered a second fumble at the Westminster 47-yard line that led to the game-tying score. He added a strip sack late in the first half and deflected a pass on the final drive of the game to help secure the win.
This was the first career PAC Athlete of the Week honor for Ghilani, who has started all four games for the Spartans this season and has 10 total tackles (seven solo) with 2.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, and passes defended.
The Spartans improved to 3-1 overall with a 1-1 Presidents' Athletic Conference record following the win over the Titans. CWRU will return home to DiSanto Field for Homecoming next weekend, hosting Saint Francis University (0-2) at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 10.
