The fourth-ranked Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team shut out its fourth consecutive opponent following a 0-0 tie with the University of Rochester on Saturday evening at Edwin Fauver Field in Rochester, New York.
The Spartans remained undefeated this season, moving to 8-0-2 overall and 0-0-1 in University Athletic Association games. The Yellowjackets moved to 3-4-3 in 2026 and 0-0-1 in UAA contests.
Stats and Standouts
- Sophomore Micah Rossen and senior Sean Wilson tied for the team lead with three shots in the contest
- Junior Ashton McNally added a pair of attempts at goal
- Sophomore goalkeeper Carter Shedd saved a pair of shots in the contest to earn his fourth individual shutout of the year
- CWRU's four defenders, seniors Philip Vlastaris, Cormac Apostolides, Cameron Thayer, and sophomore Alex Eby did not leave the field, allowing eight shots in the game, including just two on goal

First Half
- Rochester had the first shot of the contest which was saved by Shedd
- A shot from graduate student Saiheed Jah went wide a few minutes later
- CWRU nearly scored in the 15th minute when a shot by Wilson missed the goal by less than a foot
- The Spartans earned a corner kick in the 20th minute, but were unable to get a shot off
- Rossen drove into the box in the 29th minute, creating enough space for a shot, but the effort was saved
- Neither team put an attempt on goal for the remainder of the first period
- CWRU held a 5-3 edge in shots and had the only corner kick of the first frame
Second Half
- McNally had a shot saved just 68 seconds into the second period
- Case Western Reserve's second corner kick of the game, which occurred at the 49th minute, did not lead to a shot
- Wilson nearly broke the deadlock in the 51st minute, missing a shot just above the crossbar from close range
- A few minutes later, Wilson, on a well-timed run, could not beat the goalkeeper at the top of the box
- After the Yellowjackets earned their first corner kick in the 64th minute, the hosts' first shot of the stanza missed high
- Rochester had the next three attempts of the period, missing high and wide on all three shots
- The hosts earned a corner kick with just under five minutes left in the game, but the team's shot was saved on a dive by Shedd
- McNally had the team's first shot in half an hour, missing wide from the top of the box in the 87th minute
- Neither team had a shot for the rest of the game, ending in a scoreless tie
Spartan Notes
- Case Western Reserve moved to 5-28-6 all-time against Rochester since 1987, tying the last two meetings
- The Spartans have not allowed a goal in the second half this season
- CWRU remained one of 12 schools in Division III without a loss to start the 2026 season
- The Spartans' 8-0-2 start to the campaign is its second best to start a year in program history, falling short of the team's 9-0-1 beginning to the 2006 season
- Case Western Reserve has not conceded in the last 443:18 of play, shutting out its past four opponents and seven of its previous eight foes
