Case Western Reserve University senior Jacob Slater (men's cross country) and junior Mitchell Fein (men's soccer) were named University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week in their respective sports, following their standout performances over the weekend.
Slater won his second straight race, claiming the individual title at the Oberlin Inter-Regional Rumble in Oberlin, Ohio, on Saturday. He crossed the finish line of the men's 8K race in first place out of 178 total runners, notching a time of 25:19.3.
It marked the third UAA Cross Country Athlete of the Week honor of his career, after receiving the award twice last season.
Slater's effort helped the 27th-ranked Spartans finish first out of 19 teams at the event. CWRU will now turn its attention to the championship portion of its schedule, starting with the 2026 UAA Championship at the St. James Farm in Warrensville, Illinois, on Saturday, October 31.
Fein scored the game-winning goal for the fifth-ranked Spartans in a top 10 matchup with ninth-ranked Chicago on Saturday afternoon at DiSanto Field in Cleveland. With the score tied at one in the 76th minute, junior Sean Wilson headed the ball off a deflection to the top of the penalty area. Fein collected the ball with his right foot then struck a laser-like shot with his left foot past the goalkeeper and into the back of the net. CWRU kept the Maroons off the board for the remainder of the contest to secure the win.
Fein netted his fourth goal of the year and second game-winning tally of 2026. Of his six career goals, four are game winners. This was the first UAA Athlete of the Week award of his career.
The men's soccer team improved to 10-0-2 this season and 2-0-1 in UAA play with the win. CWRU will welcome Brandeis University to DiSanto Field on Friday, October 23 with kickoff scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
