Case Western Reserve University senior defensive back Osi Chukwuocha and senior defensive lineman Joseph Swarm were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America First Team for their athletic and academic achievements during the 2025 campaign.
The Academic All-America Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Players honored were nominated by their school's Sports Information Directors and chosen from the pool of Academic All-District honorees, which were released in early January. To be eligible, players must be a starter or important reserve with a 3.50 cumulative grade point average.
Chukwuocha and Swarm became the 29th and 30th players in program history to earn Academic All-America honors and the first since the 2020 campaign. CWRU football players have totaled 38 Academic All-American honors, including 25 first-team selections. A total of 127 CWRU student-athletes from all varsity teams have garnered 187 Academic All-America honors since the program's inception, 15th all-time among all NCAA schools and eighth among NCAA Division III programs.
CWRU was one of just six schools to place multiple people on the CSC Academic All-America First Team, along with Johns Hopkins, St. John's (Minn.), Ohio Northern, Trinity (Texas), and North Central. It was also the only Presidents' Athletic Conference school to place players on the first team, and one of just two PAC teams total (along with Grove City) to have players receive the honor.
Chukwuocha was named to the All-PAC First Team and became just the 45th player in program history to receive multiple All-PAC honors over a career. He started all 10 games at cornerback for the Spartans during his senior season and finished the year with 50 tackles (37) solo, 4.0 tackles for loss, one interception, five pass breakups, and two quarterback hurries. Chukwuocha played in 39 games during his career, finishing his time as a Spartan with 152 tackles (112 solo), five tackles for loss, and four interceptions.
Chukwuocha, a mechanical and aerospace engineering major, has a 3.862 cumulative GPA and has been named to the PAC Fall Academic Honor Roll. He was named to the Academic All-District Team for the second-straight year in 2025 and was a Van Horn Society inductee.
Swarm, an All-PAC Second Team honoree in 2025, proved to be a force in the pass rush for the Spartans during the season, leading the team with 7.5 sacks and 11.0 tackles for loss, both career highs. Starting all 10 games at defensive end, he had 46 total tackles (25 solo) with a pass breakup, three quarterback hurries, and two forced fumbles. Swarm had at least one sack in seven of the team's final eight games. In his 28 career games, he totaled 62 tackles (31 solo) with 14 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks.
Swarm has been a standout performer academically as well, recording a 3.963 cumulative GPA as a computer engineering major. He has been named to the PAC Fall Academic Honor Roll three times over his career and was inducted into the Van Horn Society in December.
The Spartans finished the 2025 season with a 4-5-1 overall record, including a 4-4 mark in PAC contests.
