The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team won its third consecutive game by a score of 6-0, defeating Grove City College by that scoreline at Don Lyle Field in Grove City, Pennsylvania, on Friday afternoon.
The Spartans improved to 4-0-0 on the season, while the Wolverines dropped to 0-2-1.
Six different CWRU players scored in the contest which was the fourth shutout in a row to open the season for the team.
First Half
- Senior Alexis Sassower opened the scoring in the 20th minute, receiving a long pass from senior Maggie Farra at the top of the box and striking the ball past the pulled-out goalkeeper into the back of the net
- It was the first goal of the season for Sassower and the 10th of her career
- Farra doubled the team's advantage five minutes later, scoring her team-leading eighth goal of the campaign with an assist from senior Andrea Silva
- Silva found Farra just outside the box, and she fired a strike into the top corner of the goal to make the score 2-0
- First-year Izzy Probst found the back of the net in the 39th minute, scoring for the second time in 2025
- Probst dribbled past three defenders at the top of the box and shot the ball high toward the crossbar. It bounced into the goal for the third CWRU score of the game
- Sophomore Abby Welker earned her first collegiate goal in the 42nd minute, giving the Spartans a 4-0 lead heading into halftime
- First-year Emily Callanen sent a corner kick toward the box, and Welker headed the ball past the goalkeeper for the score. Callanen earned her first collegiate assist on the play
Second Half
- Five minutes after the break, senior Molly Shamah increased the team's lead to five, scoring on a lofting kick from near the end line
- It was her third goal in as many games and the 13th of her career
- Prior to the shot, Sassower sent a pass to Shamah, earning credit for her fifth assist of the year
- Silva scored the final goal for CWRU in the 69th minute, dribbling around a defender in the box after receiving a pass from Callanen and shooting the ball beyond the goalkeeper's reach
- It was her first goal of the season and the fifth of her career
- Sophomore Ellie Palaian saved two shots to record her fourth consecutive shutout to begin the 2025 season
- First-year Mia Modrovich and sophomore Kinzly Gootman each played 90 minutes on the CWRU backline
